If thr weather cooperates we have quite a few folks asking about trips after Thanksgiving so keep in touch with us. We hope all of you have a great Thnakgiving Day.

Winter is coming & time to take some time off

Beginning now and thru the winter months we will try to report from time to time the happenings and any news on the 2017 season when we get that information. Rainy but good fishing

It was a very wet Sunday morning as it was that real heavy mist that seems to find its way even inside rain suits. The good news is that the fish bit really well as lots of rockfish were caught and in my observation from the office area we saw quite a good number of nice sized Lingcod as well. Crabbing don't mind the rain either and there were lots of them. Wet but a good day.

Good offshore fishing Saturday

Not sure of the fishing report for the inshore bottom fishing boats but did hear the crabbing remains really good with one boat getting close to a hundred crabs to devide up with the folks onboard. Our offshore boat came back in from the 600 foot stuff with a limit of Big Lingcod and a limit of Canary rockfish.

Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 14:27
Current Report:
Some bad weather for a few days

Very heavy seas are with us here this afternoon and sounds like it might be a few more days before it all moves out of here. This is ceertainly the time of year when we get these quick hitting storms that hang around for a few days and then we get a few good days. Right now sounds like Friday into the weekend is looking better.

Deep water fishing on Sunday

Our 6-pac boat ventured out 15-miles to the offshore Big Lingcod spots this morning and came home with some really nice Lingcod but not a limit. They added a limit of Canary rockfish and the ones we get out there are really nice 10-pound fish. Did not heart results of the inshore fishing boats this morning.

Remember anyone wanting to crab the season comes to an end October 15th.

Current Report:

Fishing a little slower today....

....crabbing returned to summer numbers

The bottom fishing was a little slower today then normal days with bottom fish hard to come by. We all caught fish for the three boats out there but not what we are normally used to. Our 6-pac caught 6-Lingcod in his catch but all in all a little on the pokey side today. On the other side of the conversation after a few weeks of the crabbing beginning to tail off it all came back to summer numbers with the Mr. Max leading the way with 118 for his eleven customers. Our 6-pac boat got 47 for his five folks crabbing.

The picture taken above is one of the customers on our 6-pac boat who fished the entire time, caught quite a few fish and assisted in pulling the five crab pots. Did I mention that he is 87-years young. Hope I can do that when I get there.

Salmon slowed once again

The final Salmon trip of the season for TW was today as it closes down tomorrow the last day of September and we only came up taking home 1-fish. Had another few on and a few other take-downs but the fish that were here a few days back have since moved on.

Date: Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 14:50
Current Report:
Sounded like a fair day on the bottom fishing reefs

First off the word on the bottom fishing boats was that the Salmon were even swarming around the boats this morning and that the sport boats we heard from had good salmon trips with lots of them biting. It has truly been a strange summer/fall of Salmon fishing

The bottom fishing from the reports I was able to hear was that the fishing was pretty good with most folks on the boats doing fairly well Sunday morning. Ther 6-pac boat reported a quick limit on rockfish with Lingcod as well.

Date: Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 17:16
Current Report:
A mixed bag Saturday morning

It was a big boat morning on Saturday as the bar crossing was quite rough for anyone crossing so all of the small charter boats and recreational craft stayed tied to the docks. The word was once the boats got up north a ways it mellowed out quite a bit and from there as the morning progressed turned into a pretty nice ocean. The return home bar crossing was very smooth. As far as the fishing went it was a mixed bag with some of the boats doing quite well and others not as well. It has been that way here the past month mostly with having to be in the right spot to do real well or just an average trip. No word on the crabbing today but the past week or so the crabbing is around 5+ per person which is down quite a bit from where it has been most of the summer. No surprise here as the fall normally shows the crabbing slacking off some.

Great Salmon fishing !!...

....bottom fishing and crab good also

The bottom fishing and crabbing was decent today with the bite good in some spots and not so good in others. Keep moving around though and you wil find those sweet spots. Crabbing also was like it has been pretty good even though lots of females and younger crabs beginning to show up in the pots. Long range that is a good thing.

Our 6-man boat on a 8-hour Salmon fishing, bottom fishing and crab trip limited on the Salmon side with really beautiful fish with an average maybe around 11 pounds for the 12 fish. Some were a little smaller and some were up above 12 pounds. Really fat pigs as they should be this time of year.

Current Report:
Nice ocean and good fishing Wednesday

We got out of the rough ocean mode finally after 3-4 days and had a nice ocean today and the fishing was very good also. The fishing totes looked pretty full for just about everyone from the observations that I was able to see and some nice Lingcod also. Crabbing has slowed some since the great summer we had but is still pretty darn good. The ocean weather for Thursday sounds good but a little unsettled after that thru the weekend.

Date: Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 07:56
Current Report:
Another bad ocean morning

We are hopeful for the ocean to mellow by mid-day but right now we are looking at a 9-foot swell which kept the boats on the docks for the 2nd day in a row. The forecast calls for nice conditions beginning tomorrow so lets look forward to some good ocean fishing beginning Wednesday.

Sorry my mistake....

...8am departure time

I said earlier that the new departure time for fishing trips was to begin on Tuesday September 29th. I was right on the day of the week but wrong on the number. The real change over to the 8am departure time is Tuesday, September 27th.

Date: Monday, September 19, 2016 at 11:52
Current Report:
New departure times announced

Beginning next Tuesday, September 29th our fishing departure times will be at 8am as our present times are rubbing right up against the morning still being dark. The only exception will be the 8-hour offshore Lingcod trips which will still be leaving at daybreak right around 7am.

Date: Monday, September 19, 2016 at 07:55
Current Report:
No fishing today

Though the official beginning of Fall begins Thursday, September 22nd it sure is looking like Fall as all of the boats in the harbor appear to have cancelled any fishing trips for the day. Rough bar conditions and a moderate swell dominate the ocean conditions today. The forecast is saying that Wednesday all will be better for a few days with growing swell again for Friday.

Date: Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 13:23
Current Report:
A few days of nautical oceans

Wer did have one boat out Sunday morning on a bottom fishing trip and thus far no word on how that trip went. It was a drizzly, foggy morning and the ocean had a pretty decent swell on it so certainly was not what the ocean has been like for the past few months. Sounds like Wednesday everything will be back to nice conditions with a little more of what we saw today Monday and Tuesday.

Current Report:
Salmon improvement and limits on rockfish

Out of the blue the Salmon fishing improved. Just when you thought that the Salmon season was all but over they showed up again. Not in huge numbers but we kept everyone on the boats interested and watching rods. Lots of "swings and misses" but quite a few really-really nice Salmon put into nets on the two boats out Salmon fishing this morning.

It was a rainly windy day out there today so having a rain jacket on was a must. The bottom fishing was extra good today with all of the boats recording limits from the radio chatter with a few Lingcod in the mix. Crabbing as it has been was also very good.

Current Report:
Slow day on the Salmon but a good bottom fishing bite

Salmon has slowed down considerably since the good opening week of the September fishery but the fish that are getting into the net are really nice big fish. Problem is there are not enough of them.

Bottom fishing on the other hand today started out slow and ended up with a really good catch. Crabbing also remains strong with another good day of pulling pots.

Thursday morning fish report

We had boats bottom fishing and Salmon fishing this morning and from all reports the bottom fishing was really great especially when the fish were on the bite early in the morning. They were up on the surface finning and normally when they do that it is a circus of catching fish.

The Salmon fishing was slow with three being caught and another being thrown back in. It was a legal fish to keep but was one of next year's fish and we thought we would just catch it next season. It swam away and said good-by.

Good fishing Wednesday

Our boats bottom fishing Wednesday morning had good to very good trips catching rockfish and Lingcod and the crabbing of course as it has been was very good. One of our boats came really close to a limit of rockfish and had 4-5 Lingcod in the boat by trips end which actually ended an hour early as the south winds was whipping up the waters quite a but late in the morning. All is suppose to be much better by tomorrow. Looking at the waters this afternoon that transition has already taken place. We have some Salmon ships heading out tomorrow as well as bottom fishing boats also so hopefully some "slippery's" are still in the area.

Salmon on the return

There only half way thru the morning trip and already quite a few salmon have taken refuge onboard the Mariner. So after a few days of missing Salmon we are finding them again. Good news and a final report later in the day.

Date: Monday, September 12, 2016
Current Report:
General fishing update over past few days

The word out there right now is that fishing for Salmon has slowed considerably. After a week and a day of good September Salmon fishing with really nice sized fish they have moved out of our area it appears. We have had quite a bit of northerly winds, which have cooled down the water quite a bit, and maybe that’s the reason. It could also mean that the fish have moved close to the eventual place where they run up the rivers and that certainly is far from anyone’s thinking that it could be close to Depoe Bay. We will let you know if it improves.

Bottom fishing is really good right now with quite a good number of Lingcod also being caught as the catching has improved since a slower last half of August. Crabbing also remains very good.

Current Report:
Happy days on the planet

Was talking to one of our skippers Captain Dan owner/operator of the Mariner who for the 2nd straight day had a really good Salmon catch. He told me that he had his best trip of the summer with over half the Salmon, well over half of the crabs and a slew of bottom fish. That was the captain talking right? Well take a look at the picture above taken by our office staff as this couple as it was stated to me "happiest fisherman on the planet" as they show off their Salmon, lots of Sea bass, Lingcod and a load of crabs. What a day!! No one tries harder everyday then the skippers at TW to give our clients more "happy days on this planet".

Current Report:
There be Salmon

We got a really nice surprise this morning with some September Salmon showing up right out in front of the harbor out a few miles. One of our boats (Mariner) got just a little over one per rod on an average which is so much better then what the summer Salmon season which ended in August provided. Nice looking fish also from what I was told.

The bottom fishing was decent today but one of those days that you had to work hard with that rod and reel to put some fish in your tote. Did hear some nice Cabezon were caught but not much in the Lingcod department. Crabbing remains really good maybe up around 8+ per person.

Saturday afternoon boats had good trips

All of the TW boats out in the afternoon had pretty good trips with the average for the rockfish averaging around 6-fish per customer plus a few Cabezon were reported. Crabbing was around 6 or 7 per angler.

Current Report:
The weather report got it wrong this morning

The forecasted weather was a little off the mark this morning as it seemed to be much wetter out there then they were talking about and the winds were quite a bit more then what we expected. That didn't stop a really motivated TW fleet this morning as we all had good trips and one of the boats had a really good number of Lingcod as well. Lots of rockfish were biting this morning on all of the boats and the crabbing had a really good morning with the larger boats hauling in 100 or more and the one smaller boat with less pots had around 60. Good day !!!

Date: Friday, August 26, 2016 at 16:20
Current Report:
Back to being in the right spot

The reports handed into me today was that the four big boats out had good trips but some had great trips. It was another one of those days where if you happened to drop into the right spot the fish "bit like fleas". If you were elsewhere as we can't all fish the same exact spot you caught fish but not like the hungry fleas. Crabbing after only a decent day yesterday returned to "lights out" crabbing today.

Beautiful day....

...beautiful ocean....

....great fishing....

....excellent crabbing !!

Bliue skies and a breathless day must have put the fish into a good mood as our boats either limited or had really good trips. Not a great many Lingcod came back to port but there were a decent number with some Cabezon in the mix. Crabbing as it has been all summer remains really good.

Wednesday fishing report

One boat out this morning and another out on an afternoon trip and from all reports pretty good fishing but not quite as good as the day before. Crabbing was excellent again with scores around 6-7 per person on an average.

Current Report:
Good Tuesaday fishing

Two boats out on the reefs bottom fishing on Tuesday and the boats came back with good catches mostly rockfish and one boat reported only a few fish short of a limit. The Lingcod catch somewhat slow with 5-keepers on the boat. Crabbing remains very consistent with one boat bringing home over 120 of the pinching critters.

Date: Monday, August 22, 2016 at 12:28
Current Report:
A good Monday

The Morning Star was out on the bottom fishing reefs and came home early (just a little bit) with a load of bottom fish. That would be a limit. Crabbing was also good with participants on the boat sharing 75 really nice crabs. Good day !!!

Some more website issues

Sorry about the fishing reports that are missing folks. We are having some unknown issues with for no reason it appears all of the reports back to early August seem to disappear. Some smart people are working on it. The quick update I can give you is that the crabbing like it has been all summer long is terrific. The big boasts on a continuous basis are bringing in large amount so cabs with some boats consistently over 100 per day. It has been really good. With all of the fishing we do (crabbing-bottom fishing-Salmon fishing-Tuna fishing-Halibut fishing) we very rarely have a season when all of them are good all season long. There always seems to be some that are better then others and then the next season the reversal happens. Here lately the bottom fishing has been sporadic from boat to boat like it was today. You get in the right spot and we have terrific trips where another boat basically in the same area not as well. That’s fishing folks.

Sunday report

Had a good day of fishing on Sunday but it was another one of those days where you had to get to that sweet spot. If you did then you were one of the big boats that limited or had really good trips or just an average one. Weird morning trips here lately but really good afternoon goes. Normally its opposite. Crabbing stays teriffic with the boats coming in with overt 100 crabs on some of them.

Weird swell and pretty good fishing

Really a nice wind free ocean out there this morning but there was a weird swell sometimes approaching 7-foot and more once in a while that had much of the radio chatter attention today. They were calling it a pre-fall swell which by the looks of things is not that far away. Anyhow not a heavy bite but for those that kept aftert it the entire trip the rewards were pretty good with a good number of fish caught. No news on the Lingcod score today but the crabbing was once again excellent.

It depended on a few things this morning

Once in a while where you are and who your with might make for a good or not so good day. Today we had three boats out and one did Great, another did pretty good and another not so pretty good. The strange thing was we were all fishing in the same area up north of Depoe Bay. Right place and right time morning. Crabbing was almost the reverse of that. The Great fishing boat did good on crabbing, the not so great fishing boat did Great on crabbing and the pretty good boat did pretty good on crabbing. Fun day anyhow on a really nice ocean.

2016 Summer Salmon season closes

The summer salmon season ended today, Sunday, August 7th and will re-open September 3rd with the only difference is that we do not have to worry about that adipose fin. Lets hope another difference is there are fish to catch. Any salmon caught we can keep as long as it is the proper length. That late in the summer hard to find a Salmon less then the required length. Tradewinds ran one (1) Salmon trip all summer long that being opening day, June 25th. The last time we did worse then that was one summer quite a few years ago when the season was closed all summer long and that year we ran zero trips. Our office should be commended for telling people the total truth on the prospect of catching any Salmon and everyone opted to either wait to see if it improved or to go bottom fishing or something else. Our office wants our passengers to feel like they are being taken care of and not to waste money on a virtual zero prospect of having a boat having a good trip. We are not saying anything about other charter places that chose to run them only that we opted to do it this way. Hopefully we will find not only some fish in September but with not having to worry about the adipose fin at least give our customers a fighting chance to take home a fish.

Light rain and a little wind but a good bite today

All of our boats out today and from a little radio chatter I heard most if not all the ships had a decent to good bite this morning. Quite a good number of bass caught with the normal assortment of Lingcod also on the filet table. Saw the crab cookers carrying up three totes of crabs off of one boat so shall we assume it was another stealler day pulling crab traps.

Friday was not a nice summer day

Not totally sure about fish reports last few days

....crabbing still really good

...Tuna trips scheduled but none in past 9 days

Just have not heard a whole lot to attempt a guess as to how the boats have been doing Tuesday and Wednesday. No clear messages have come my way but I do know that it has not been a heavy bite if what I have heard is accurate. Fish have been coming into the boats but apparently not at a heavy rate. Crabbing I did hear about and it is still really-really good.

Our 6-pac boat just reported in with really good scores both days with lots of Lingcod coming to the filet tables along with 4-5 rockfish per rod and really good crabbing also with close to 40 today for the four folks participating. So there is a little update.

We still are trying to get some Tuna trips out but all of the trips the past nine days have been cancelled or put to other days in the future. Just no weather right now offshore worth dealing with.

The NEW Tradewinds and its facelift

As you can see in the photo the office here at Tradewinds has a new facelift with new lettering, a fresh paint job and new signs coming real soon. All sorts of new things on the way over the next year that will just add to the already great fishing trips our skippers provide you each and every day. So keep up-to-date with us for some great new stuff.

Todays fishing was really good with from what the chatter was some good catching of Lingcod and rockfish with lots and lots of crabs. One of our boats put a limit of Lingcod on the deck today with all the others catching some nice Lingcod as well with some really big Canary rockfish and an assortment of Blue and Black rockfish. Mr Max even caught a really nice Halibut.

We got backj out this morning

After a day off yesterday due to rough ocean conditions the "Big Boats" got back out today but small boats both recreational and 6-pac boats were restricted. Saw the fish in some of the totes that had the fish in them after the filet knife took care of them and it looked like it was not an especially good day so we will call it a fair day on the bottom fish catch. Crabbing looked good but this summer it would be rare when it was not.

Date: Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:14
Current Report:
Saturday a rare summertime NO-GO on the ocean waters

It’s rare in the summer months when we have NO-GO days especially for the larger boats but we sure had one today. The swell out front of Depoe Bay right now is 9-foot with lots of wind chop on top of that and winds up to 25-30 knots forecasted. The larger boats made that decision this morning after watching it for some time. With the buoy off Tillamook, OR showing a still growing swell now which is up to 13 foot to cancel for the day.

The skippers of Tradewinds always look at these oceans in respect to the passengers in the chances of catching fish, having a good time and in many cases the passengers wasting there passenger fares because they get motion sickness. Put that altogether and the skippers made the correct decision in thinking about there passengers to cancel. This is the time of year that these life long skippers make there money to also pay the bills in the winter months but we are committed to putting our clients #1.

Dress warmly this weekend folks

You are probably asking why dress warmly when its one-hundred degrees in the valley. That valley weather brings fog and heavy winds over here (COLD). Should be choppy on the water this weekend, windy and a good cance of fog. The fish don't mind though. That kind of weather was around today and the word was the fish bit pretty good in that stuff. Better weather predicted for next week but we have heard that before.

Windy but a decent catch day

It was certainly a windy ocean this morning but it was Ok because even with the northerly winds gusting over 20 knots at times there was virtually no ocean swell. That made for the fishing experience to be relatively calm and the fish responded with a decent bite. It was not a hot bite but one of the TW vessels reported over 15 Lingcods in the totes today. Crabbing was again very good with some boats reporting over 100 in the baskets to divide up amongst the folks.

Fun trips Tueasday morning

Four of the five TW boats out on the bottom fishing reefs had reasonably successful trips with a good number of rockfish and quite a few Lingcod I heard bit the hooks as well. The people all had fairly nice looking fishing totes when they took them up to the filet tables. Crabbing as it has been all summer was really good.

Sounds like a little bit of wind the next few days but as it was today with a windy forecast it was pretty nice in the morning hours up until about the 11am hour when we were already on the way home.

Salmon fishing and why Tradewinds not running trips

With 13 days left in the summer Central Oregon Coast salmon season the quota on salmon is only 5.7% caught with over a month gone in the season. The season closes August 8th. Tradewinds has only run one salmon trip so far this summer. We have had plenty of opportunities but are telling our clients calling in the situation so they full well know what is happening. Most are opting to go a different fishing option like bottom fishing, inshore Halibut or Tuna fishing. So far this summer only 146 fish have been harvested in Depoe Bay which the ODFW somehow has reported that each angler fishing for Salmon this summer out of Depoe Bay is catching 0.18% of a fish. Not sure what the reason is maybe warm water, El Nino or something else but one would think after years of great Salmon fishing along this part of the coast that something is really wrong. A week ago the ODFW reported that the best fishing of the summer will be in the next three weeks and one week has gone by and it has not improved. Hopefully maybe the September fishery will prove to be better.

No wind and lots of fish and crabs

Had a great morning as all four of our boats out this morning as we held one back for early cruising. Most of the boats did really well on the rockfish and the Mr Max reported catching double digits in the Lingcod department. That is a treuthful write up also. Was suppose to be windy but a little marine cloud cover which we all like to see kept the winds down to virtually nothing. Great ocean and lots of fish and crab. Same thing likely to happen tomorrow.

Fishing today depended on where you were and lucky to be there

First off yesterday our Tuna boat on some seas that turned pretty rough in the afternoon hours brought home 17-fish and after travelling out about 20-miles this morning turned around and brought the folks back home. Too rough today!!

The water temperature after heavy northerly winds yersterday lowered the temps almost 10-degrees overnight to around 51-degrees. The bottom fishing today was a matter of being on the right boat when the fish were biting at that one spot. It happened to a few of the boats and not to a few. The fish bit in spurts and there was no special places to go it was just being there when it happened. Some did well and others not so well. Crabbing remains very good as it has been for some time now.

Good day out on the pond

We had a beautiful ocean on the bottom fishing reefs Friday morning and it was a "tough go" for it seems like the entire trip until the final few hours. Then as they normally do in a five hour trip the fish went on the bite, were finning on top of the water in spots and all of the boats came home with a great catch. Most of the boats limited on the rockfish or were really close and our 6-pac got a Lingcod limit for 6-passengers. the crab counts for those participating were over 100+ crabs per charter boat as it was only the larger boats crabbing today. I would guess that puts the average per passenger count up in the ten range per. Good day folks and I can only say it once in a while but no one does it better then we do. We have captains that care and will work hard for you till the very end. You are paying alot of money to go fishing and you want a nice clean vessel and want a crew that cares. You will get that from Tradewinds.

Good day on the bottom fishing reefs Wednesday

Decent day on the bottom fishing reefs Wednesday morning as we also have 2nd trips going out that hopefully we can report on later. The water has really warmerd up again with some areas up around the 62-63 degree mark. Hot water has never been something that bottom fish really like so it as sometimes it is was a battle out there today. I do know our 6-pac got a few Lingcod and just short of 6-rockfish per passenger. I did hear over the CB radio that the other boats were doing about the same the ones I was listening too. The picture above off the Mr Max who has been catching alot of these "big toothy critters" lately as it was this young lady celebrating her birthday today caught this GIANT. Happy Birthday!!! The real surprise today after the crabbing cooled off the past few days was the return of the good crabbing. The 6-pac limited all his passengers and I hear some of the big boats getting right around a hundred crabs in pots they were pulling. All in all a good day.

From all reports received over the radio chatter it was a pretty good day out there on the reefs as all of the boats heard from said they had a decent day with a somewhat a slower crab pull then the past month or so. It was still pretty good with 3-5 around but not quite where it has been. The picture above shows this 36-inch long Lingcod caught on the Mr Max this morning and our 6-pac reported having 9 of the 12 Lingcod needed to limit so sounds like they were on the bite this morning.

Still waiting for a little better news on the salmon bite. It is better then it was at the seasons beginning but still far less then a fish per passenger which would be labeled good salmon fishing. There is still time and we are running trips for those folks who know the score and want to go out and give it a try. Remember we still have the September salmon fishery coming up where at least we do not have to worry about the adipose fin thing.

Really a nice early morning ocean on Tuesday

Bottom fishing went well on Tuesday morning as most of the boats reporting did really well on the rockfish front but right now the honest report on the lingcod bite would be quite slow. We are getting some nice Canary rockfish in the catch as seen in the picture above as some of our customers are displaying. The reason that I have for you today is the water is very warm in the very high 50 degree marks almost in the 60's. Lots of southerly winds the past 4-5 days are responsible for that. That also brings in tons of bait fish and the fish we fish for are plugged with bait in there stomachs. Sounds like the northerlies will be returning tomorrow and that should cool down the water at least inshore ina few days.

The warm water on the other front is a good thing as the Tuna fishing is really good right now and we have trips going out Thursday, Saturday and Sunday of this week. If interested give our office a call.

It looks almost flat out there and it was but a forecast which should hit the area very soon will bring lots of wind, some wet stuff and a rapidly growing swell. First off the results of our first Tuna trip of the year came in later then I thought last night so had to wait till today to post the results. As you can see by the picture above it was a successful trip with right around 3-fish per passenger on what was called a really nice ocean most of the day. Our next scheduled trip is Sunday but possibly some weather might get in the way so we will keep an eye on that for you.

Our 6-pac boat came home early this morning with a rockfish limit and 41 crabs but NO Lingcod or at least keepers this morning. The ocean weather got really choppy up there about 2-hrs into the trip so getting jigs down where the Lings live was not a real easy task.

The picture above shows a passenger hoding one of the biggest Sea Trout we've seen in many years. It was over five pounds. Thats a big Sea Trout.

The Salmon fishing is still very slow and our office is still not trying to run many salmon trips until it improves. I know we did run trips a few days ago but the folks just wanted to try knowing that it was not very good. Two boats out this morning and we started out really well with quite a number of Lingcod on the bite and some decent numbers of rockfish and then came the heavy current. We were able to round up a good catch though with lots of hard work and I believe both boats came in with quite a few Lingcod and maybe in the 4-5 rocvkfish per rod. Crabbing on the one boat doing it this morning by the looks of the totes going up the docks with crab in them turned out really well.

One of those tough days

This was one of those rare summer days where the fish just did not cooperate. The water temp after 4-5 days of really heavy NW winds has dropped the sea temps below 50 degrees. That can be unless in the perfect spot a "kiss of death" scenario. So it was today with the skippers working there back-sides off to find biting fish but it was a struggle. Our 6-pac however found that "sweet spot" so to speak and caught a really fast limit after having a tough day the day before. It gets all of us once in a while but tomorrow is another day.

It was a good day of fishing and for that matter catching as well but with the last 3-4 days of northerly winds we are having is really cooling off the water temperatures. Had a few boats out today and had to put up with rain and a moderate to heavy wind which came in a little stronger then expected. The Mariner though was able to put together a limit of rockfish and it looked like had a decent catch of crab as well. The inshore halibut boat got blown off the Halibut spots outside in 240 feet of water but managed to drag in two nice Halibut before it got a to rough to fish out there. He came back in and landed about 20 or so rockfish before coming in to the shelter of the harbor. Much better day for tomorrow is forecasted.

Another nice day on Thursday

It sure was a nice morning on the water with just a very few sprinkles here and there but no wind and the fishing was really good. The rockfish were biting like they normally are and our boats caught not a great number of lingcod today but not bad. Crabbing was excellent as one boat reported 6+ per customer. Catch ya all tomorrow.

We have daily trips for bottom fishing with crab as a combo going out at 7am....YES, 7am and not earlier than that so if you are coming over from the valley no need to get up quite so early. Part of our customer satisfaction plan and leaving a hour later does not make a difference on our catch record. Salmon opens June 25th!!!

Good fishing Sunday

Another minus tide bar crossing made for some fun but once out to the 1st buoy the ocean was pretty nice as we had three boats leave early (7am) and two others with deeper drafts wait till more water was back into ther harbor (9am). For all boats the rockfish catch were limit catches from the radio chatter. Not sure about the lingcod catch but the 6-pac got three-quarters of his limit onboard. Crabbing I heard was somewhere between 4-6 per person depending on the boat with lots of female crabs showing up today for the first time. Thats good news for the crab future.

Current Report:
Tough tide but fishing really good.

The boats had to cross a 2-foot minus tide bar this morning which had the exit out to the first buoy a little interesting but all was cleared up pretty nice by the time we all returned 4-5 hours later. We have another one tomorrow morning but an hour later & not sure if that is a good or a bad thing. Find out tomorrow.

Now to the fishing. Never heard any exact reports from the skippers but do know the 6-pac limited on rockfish and came really close to limiting the Lingcod as well. The boats were back a little early and from the chatter I did hear they all did really good on the rockfish but heard lots of "shorty" Lingcod but not a whole bunch of legal to keep Lingcod. Crabbing sounded from the one radio report I think I heard correctly was that it was really good.

Tough inshore Halibut go-good bottom fishing

It was a tough day out on the inshore Halibut day opener as our 6-pac experienced in the morning hours windy, choppy and to make matters worse a heavy current. We did come back in later and caught a limit of rockfish and most of the lingcod. Hopefully the next trip out there will be in better conditions.

The Morning Star had a good bottom fishing trip catching a limit of rockfish and some nice crab and came back in a tiny bit early.

Decent catching but a pretty tough day with ocean currents

WE ENDED UP ON TODAYS TRIP ON OUR 6-PAC VESSEL WITH AROUND 6 ROCKFISH PER ROD AND HAD NINE LINGCOD FOR THE SIX PASSENGERS BUT THE OCEAN CURRENT REALLY MADE IT A TOUGH DAY. A NORMAL CURRENT THAT WE LIKE TO SEE IS BETWEEN .2 UP TO .8 OF A KNOT. TODAY ALL MORNING LONG IT WAS RUNNING NEAR 2 KNOTS. IT WAS JUST FLYING BUT WE MADE IT THRU AND WITH HARD WORK FROM THE PASSENGERS WE CAUGHT A GOOD NUMBER OF FISH. WE ALSO BOATED 36 CRABS FOR THE THREE PASSENGERS CRABBING WHICH IS TWELVE PER PERSON AND THAT FOLKS IS A LIMIT.

Great fishing and crabbing Saturday

The entire TW fleet out on the water today and all boats (i think) pretty much came back home with limits of fish. The ocean was beautiful, blue skies and very calm wind. Can't ask for anything better then that. From what I heard from the skippers the Morning Star, Sunrise all had great crab trips along with our 6-pac boat. Not sure if the other two boats out crabbed today and the Mariner was back early so assume a rockfish limit. I also heard from the skippers that the Sunrise, Mr Max limited on the rockfish and that the Morning Star was close. The 6-pac boat checked in with a limit of Lingcod for passengers and crew on this day.

Nice weather is here

Not only are we forecasted for nice ocean weather thru this holiday weekend but also clear thru into the end of next week as well. Not much wind and very nice ocean swell forecasted thru that entire period. Fishing should be great and the crabbing is also pretty decent as well.

Inshore Halibut opens up next Wednesday, June 1st. That can be a fun fishery as we have to fish inside 40-fathoms of water for the Halibut but we get to catch some bottom fish on the same trip. The Halibut catching can be hit or miss as not as close to a sure thing like the offshore fishery is but still the chance is there.

Three big boats out Saturday morning bottom fishing and one was back in early with a limit and the other two came back in on time with really close to limits. Some nice "toothy Lingcod" also hit the filet tables. The Depoe Bay bar was a little rough this morning pretty much only allowing bigger boats to venture out but the ocean outside the entrqnce buoy looked decent and the good catch coming home was worth the morning ride out of the harbor. Things now and the ride back into the harbor aroundn oon was much better.

Nice Lingcod on our 6-pac today

Not a full limit but came real close to a limit of Lingcod and easily got the limit on the rockfish on Wednesday morning. The rockfish we caught this morning were extra big ones also as once in a while you get into a bunch of rockfish which are the "adults only" section. Quite a few in the five pound range. Seems like a little weather coming in the next two days so sounds like a few days for the big boats. Nothing bad just a little swell and some wet stuff falling out of the sky.

One of our 6-pacs out on the bottom fishing reefs Monday morning on a decent ocean but appears like some changes are in the process weather wise. No wind to speak of but a small swell that was really close together made the trip semi-uncomfortable but only at times. It did not effect the fishing however as we got a quick limit on the rockfish and they were really nice quality fish this morning. We got eight of the twelve Lingcod needed but the crabbing for the first time in over two week was a little slower. We averaged about 3.5 crabs per fishermen this morning.

They also brought home a good number of Lingcod back to the filet table as well. More boats heading out in the morning so if you can play hooky from work the weather sounds good into the weekend.

Spring Break Week #2
Here we are in the 2nd week of Spring Breaks on the west coast and we had a tough day today where we stayed tied to the docks all day for fishing as well as whale watching. Tomorrow looks like another day like today but then Tuesday thru next weekend looks like clear, dry and sunny weather and right now we are seeing really nice ocean conditions as well. So we will see you at the Oregon Coast at Tradewinds Depoe Bay for some great fishing and maybe some crabbing as that picked up for the first time Saturday.

All four of the TW boats out today and all four home early with limits
The day started with a very wet beginning which thankfully stopped just about the time of departure. The ocean started out really nice with not much wind and ended with a pretty steady breeze out of the south making the ride home wet if you happened to be standing on the bow of the boat. Not many were....

All of the boats brought home limits of rockfish and because of a heavy current the Lingcod catch today was a little off from previous trips but from what the chatter was still produced some really nice ones. The Sunrise reported he also brought in 60 crabs which was a nice improvement from where it has been. So all around a good day.

Better weather on the way
The weekend looks OK with some wet stuff falling from the sky once in a while but next week after a little hiccup on Monday looks really nice and sunny for the rest of the week into next weekend. Of course around here this winter/spring that is all open to change but at least we have a better looking forecast.

Current Report:
Two boats out and back in quickly with limits

Two of our bigger boats went out on a decent morning ocean but one that was forecasted to get windy and rough by the noon hour so the boats fished closer to home this morning. That turned out to be a good decision as the boats limited early with some nice Lingcod to boot. Crabbing remains on the slow side again today.

No trips Sunday
We did not send out any boats today and the weather for the next two days thru Tuesday sounds a little nautical. Looks like possibly a break on Wednesday but will keep an eye on it day to day for you folks out there.

Fishing remains red hot

Both the Lingcod and the rockfish catch remain hot as they have been the last few days. All of our boats today limited on the rockfish and brought home a large number of Lingcod as well. Crabbing improved also today with around two per person which is not terrific but better then yesterday.

Sounds like some weather hitting the area beginning tonight with rain, wind and moderate swells. Will let you know when things improve.

Great Lingcod and rockfish bite Friday morning
Had a great Friday morning for all of our boats out on the bottom fishing reefs as the bigger boats boated around a Lingcod and a half per rod and the 6-pac's limited out this morning on the "toothy critters". All boats limited on rockfish. The only bad news was the crabbing as they are just not in on the inside areas yet and the catch this morning was pretty small.

Chinook salmon season open March 15th
As normally was shceduled you can fish for Chinook salmon from March 15th thru the end of April 2016 and the PFMC will decide by early April of this year of its next opener. More then likely it will open May 1st and run thru the end of October. Around this area not a real popular fishery in the spring as we normally see very few of them until the summer months into the fall. Once in a while we see some spring fish but not a real popular spring fishery.

Maybe next Wednesday ocean looking better
Checking out the long range forecast next Wednesday, March 16th is the first day right now the ocean seems to be clearing up from the several weeks of rain, wind and rough ocean weather. After that things look OK for now but to early to make a prediction but at least things are lookiong better. More as we get closer.

We will see you all over in Redmond, Oregon where the weather is normally better then it is over here. Drop by the Central Oregon Sportsman Show and drop by our booth for some fishing talk and some valuable coupons.
